Web Hosting For Businesses: What's The Best Option?

By Terry Viscottano

Nowadays, a web presence is of utmost importance to just about every business. A website allows a number of benefits-for instance, you can get business all day long. Most businesses will benefit from these; some may not but even for them, having a website is an important task.

So, how do you get started with a website online?

Web hosting is the first thing you will need. Why? Well, because without a web host, you don't get any space on a server and thus aren't able to host any files. It's important because you want your files online, 24 x 7, otherwise your website would be down more often than not. There are different kinds of web hosting services you can make use of.

For personal sites, etc. where you don't expect a lot of traffic, shared plans is the best way to go. It's inexpensive, managed by others and very easy to use. Starting with shared hosting is easy, relatively, and it won't cost you a whole lot. There are, definitely, some restrictions.

Other than shared hosting, there are Virtual Private Servers, otherwise known as a VPS. A VPS is a virtual environment set up on a remote server. This way, you can share a powerful server with a number of other people. A VPS can be great for sites that receive quite a bit of traffic but aren't very extensive resource hogs.

The best option is a dedicated server. That's an entire server you rent on a monthly basis. If your site uses a lot of resources, getting a dedicated server is probably the best option. Tons of database queries? Do you need to run websites that will eat up resources fast? For these cases, a dedicated server is perhaps the best option.

The good thing about dedicated servers, or any other server, is that they are available in any region in the world. Want a Netherlands Server? Consider yourself covered. There are a number of uses of such a thing -- it's really up to you though. The downside of a dedicated server, if I have to be nit picky, is that they can be really, really expensive.

However, if you run a website that deserves a dedicated server, there shouldn't be a problem buying one. These dedicated servers are available in a lot of different locations and sometimes, isolated locations are cheaper.
